I could not resist painting my version of this gift. The large vibrant Shasta daisies, and lemony carnations were company to tiny white roses and cranberry apples. The striped vase anchored the flowing composite.

Peonies are a wonder with their large, heavy blooms. No petal is alike. For three years I have picked and sketched these beauties. But overwhelmed with garden work, I never took the time to paint. This year I was determined. I used the dark navy undercoat to delineate the flower petals. I painted the background with several coats of color until the peonies glowed. The clear red funnel vase created an interesting view.
