Green is a color with numerous hues that can be detected by the human eye. As I drove early this morning through a farming valley with the sun rising over the mountains, this thought came to my mind. So many greens! So refreshing and uplifting.
I watched a Great Courses video “How Colors Affect you: What Science Reveals”. Apparently experiments have proven that green effectively fosters creative thinking. Even a green piece of paper can ignite inventive thoughts. That must be why I intuitively painted my studio a soft green. I wish I had known this when I was teaching school!
We have all recognized that spending time hiking or sitting on a porch in a green backyard refreshes the soul and reduces stress. Also green is an invitation. Green means we can go. And the color represents the characteristic of being a nurturer.
It is an old word in many languages usually beginning with “gro” or “gre” referring to the color of living things and growth.
We can take advantage of this effect and include green and plants in our environment, and especially spend more time outside in a natural environment.
I purposely design my landscape paintings to be windows where we can mentally escape and wander. Look at my website http://joanjustis.com for “Wild Spaces” and enjoy the sense of releasing stress!
“Green is the color of life.” (Quoted from Bourne Creative, meaning of the color green.)
