INTO THE WOODS 12″ X 9″ oil painting on canvas ©2014 Joan Justis

I was able to photograph this little rabbit scurrying along a mountain trail, while in the Snowy Range of Wyoming. I’ve spent a lot of time camping, hiking, and exploring this Range. My family still likes to tease me about the inevitable snow on the picnic table at our first Spring picnics in the mountains.

Autumn-Trail

AUTUMN TRAIL
I like to challenge myself occasionally, in order to keep developing as an artist. I painted this with only three colors, Cobalt Blue, Hansa Yellow Medium, and Quinacridone Red plus white for creating tones. This is one of my favorite trails. Just for fun, I include a photo of the place I painted.

Spring-Hollow-Falls

SPRING HOLLOW FALLS 20″ x 16″ oil on canvas ©2013 Joan Justis All rights reserved.

Mountain snow and underground springs flow all year over these moss covered rocks, only to freeze in deep winter. First I painted this en plein air in hot and bright sunlight. Then I used that as a study in my studio to paint this final painting.

When you stand in the tops of the mountains in a meadow of larkspur and you can see forever, you think “this is close to heaven”.

Snow on a creek in a canyon in the Snowy Range Mountains LIBBY CREEK 16 1/2″ x 11″ watercolor on cold press paper ©1985 Joan Justis, All rights reserved. Even in winter Libby Creek makes its way under the clear ice and sparkling snow bridges of the Snowy Range Mountains in Wyoming.  As you climb high, the trees are bent parallel to the ground from enduring the weight of heavy snows.

Giclee Prints Available on watercolor paper 16 1/2″ x 11″ $175
